The short answer
In Lauderdale Lakes, an accent wall usually means papering one focal wall in a block home, townhome or condo to add pattern or texture without redoing the whole room. Our crew drives in from Fort Lauderdale, five miles east, to prep the wall, align the pattern and finish the edges cleanly.
Lauderdale Lakes sits about five miles west of our Fort Lauderdale shop, inland from the beaches, with a mix of single-story concrete-block houses, townhomes and condo communities. In many of these homes the walls are plain white or builder beige, the rooms are a practical size, and owners want a change that does not involve tearing anything out. Papering one wall is often the answer. It adds color and pattern where the eye naturally lands, costs far less effort than a full room, and is easy to update later. PrimeWall Interior Solutions plans and installs accent walls across the city, from living rooms and bedrooms to dining areas and short hallways.
Good candidates in a typical Lauderdale Lakes floor plan
Many houses here were built as one-story ranches with an open living and dining area, a short hall to the bedrooms and a kitchen along one side. In that layout, the wall that faces the front door or the long wall behind the dining table tends to make the strongest feature. In bedrooms, the headboard wall is the classic pick, and it has the advantage of being mostly uninterrupted.
Condos and townhomes offer other options. A narrow entry wall can be papered to set a mood as soon as you walk in. The wall around a television becomes a backdrop that hides cables visually. Even a stair wall in a two-story townhome makes a striking accent when the pattern is scaled correctly.
- Entry or foyer wall seen first from the front door
- Headboard wall in a primary or guest bedroom
- Dining wall in an open living and dining room
- TV or media wall where a pattern softens the dark screen
- Stair wall in a townhome, planned for the slope
Concrete block walls and what they mean for prep
Exterior walls in older South Florida homes are usually concrete block finished on the inside with plaster or with drywall over furring strips. Block can wick moisture from outside during the long wet season, especially on walls that take afternoon storms head on. If there are stains, bubbling paint or a musty smell, we test before planning any wallpaper.
Interior partitions are typically drywall, which is easier to work with. Either way, we fill holes from old shelves and frames, sand down bumps and ridges, and apply a primer formulated for wallcoverings. That primer creates a consistent surface for adhesion and protects the wall if you decide to remove the paper in a few years.
Scale, color and pattern for mid-size rooms
A large-scale print on a long wall can look dramatic; the same print squeezed onto a short wall between two doors may only show a single motif and look cut off. We help you match pattern scale to the wall's width and to the distance people stand from it. Medium repeats, vertical stripes and textured solids work well in compact rooms; bold botanicals and oversized geometrics shine on long, open walls.
Color deserves the same care. Bright South Florida sun changes how a paper reads at different times of day, and rooms with heavy window tint look cooler. We encourage taping a sample to the actual wall and checking it morning and evening before ordering.
What installation day looks like
We arrive, protect the floor and nearby furniture, and remove outlet covers and switch plates on the feature wall. A laser line sets the first vertical so the pattern does not drift as it crosses the wall. Each strip is pasted or the wall is pasted, depending on the product, then smoothed and matched to the one before it.
Trimming happens at the ceiling, baseboard and any openings. Covers go back on, adhesive is wiped from trim, and the scraps come with us. A single accent wall is usually finished the same day, and you can hang art on it once the paste has had time to cure.
