Wallpaper Removal Service in Pompano Beach

The short answer

PrimeWall removes old wallpaper and borders from Pompano Beach condos and houses, cleans off the adhesive, repairs damage and primes the walls. You end up with a surface ready for paint or new wallpaper.

Buying a Pompano Beach condo or house often means inheriting someone else's taste on the walls. Faded seashell borders, glossy vinyl in the bathroom, a heavy damask in the dining room that was painted over twice. Getting it off cleanly is slow, wet, careful work, and the condition of the wall afterward decides how good your new paint or paper will look. PrimeWall Interior Solutions is about three miles south in Fort Lauderdale, and we strip wallpaper in 33060, 33062, 33064 and 33069 homes.

Signs it is time for the old paper to go

Some removal projects are about style. Others are about condition. In a humid coastal city, older wallpaper tends to tell you when it is failing, and ignoring the signs usually makes removal harder later.

  • Seams curling or opening along the top edge
  • Bubbles or soft spots that move when pressed
  • Brown or gray staining that spreads from a corner
  • A musty smell in a bathroom even after cleaning
  • Paint applied over paper that is now cracking in a grid of lines

Condo removal versus house removal

In a beachfront tower, the work is contained to one unit, but logistics matter. Removal produces bags of wet paper and debris, and buildings usually want that carried out through the service elevator, not the lobby. We protect common hallways and keep noise low. Concrete walls in many towers hold up well to soaking, though old adhesives can be stubborn on them.

In single-family homes west of Federal Highway and beyond, walls are more often drywall over block or framing. Drywall is softer and more easily damaged by water, so we limit soaking time, work in smaller sections and watch for the paper face of the drywall starting to lift.

Methods we use, from lightest to heaviest

We always begin with the gentlest option. If a corner lifts and the sheet peels away dry, the job is mostly peeling and washing. If only the vinyl top layer releases, the paper backing left behind is soaked with warm water and a wallpaper stripping solution, then scraped once it softens.

For traditional or painted-over papers, we lightly perforate the surface with a scoring tool so the solution can reach the paste. Stubborn sections get a steamer. Steam works well, but too much heat in one spot can blister drywall, so it is applied in short passes.

Borders are a category of their own. Many were hung with a strong vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive over another wallpaper or over glossy paint. We remove both layers when necessary, because leaving the base layer often creates a raised outline once the wall is painted.

What happens to the wall afterward

Removal is only finished when the adhesive is gone. We wash every wall with clean water until it no longer feels slick. Remaining glue reacts with latex paint and creates cracking, so this step is not skipped.

Then we repair. Torn drywall paper is sealed with a shellac or oil-based primer before patching. Gouges and dents are filled, sanded and checked under angled light. A final coat of primer prepares the wall for whatever comes next, whether that is paint, new wallpaper or a feature wall in one room.

If we find signs of hidden moisture, such as dark staining or soft drywall behind bathroom paper, we stop and show you. Moisture problems should be solved at the source before any new finish goes up.

Drying time in a coastal climate

Pompano Beach air stays damp much of the year, and stripping adds even more water to a room. Walls need to dry completely before priming. We keep windows and balcony doors shut, run the air conditioning and, when needed, use fans to move air across wet surfaces. In the drier months from November into April, walls dry faster; in summer, we plan for a longer wait.

Priming damp drywall traps moisture and can lead to bubbling later, so we would rather wait an extra day than rush the finish.

Where we work

We remove wallpaper throughout Pompano Beach and in Lighthouse Point, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Coconut Creek, Hillsboro Beach and Oakland Park. If you plan to install new paper afterward, we can handle both steps in one schedule.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Honest prep advice

If a wall needs skim coating, crack repair or a moisture check first, we tell you before the job starts, not halfway through it.

  2. Pattern planned on purpose

We decide where the first strip lands so the motif centers on a focal point and the least visible seam ends up in a corner.

  3. Climate-aware materials

We help you pick papers and adhesives suited to humid bathrooms, salty coastal air and rooms where the AC cycles all day.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 823-3201 and we’ll talk it through.

Can you remove a wallpaper border only?

Yes. We remove the border and repair any outline it leaves so the wall paints evenly.

Is steaming safe for drywall?

Used in short passes, yes. Overheating one area can blister the drywall surface, which is why we work in sections.

My previous owner painted over the wallpaper. Can it still come off?

Usually. The paint has to be scored so water can reach the paste, and it takes longer than unpainted paper.

Do you haul away the old paper?

Yes. We bag the debris and remove it, following any building rules for condos.

Can I paint the same day the paper comes off?

No. Walls must be washed, dried, repaired and primed first, which takes at least an extra day.

Tell us about the room you want to change

Send a few photos and the rough size of the walls, and we will talk through prep, paper options and timing for your home.
