Hillsboro Beach Wallpaper Removal

The short answer

We test and remove old wallpaper without gouging the walls, wash away adhesive, check for moisture or mildew behind vinyl, and repair and prime the surface. Work is scheduled around building rules and can be done while you are away.

A residence that changes hands in Hillsboro Beach often comes with the previous owner's taste on the walls: heavy vinyl in the bathrooms, a tropical print in the kitchen, maybe a dated border running around a bedroom. Before a renovation or a fresh coat of paint, all of it has to come off cleanly. PrimeWall Interior Solutions handles wallpaper removal in this oceanfront town, seven miles northeast of our Fort Lauderdale base, and we take extra care with the moisture and mildew issues that coastal homes can hide behind old vinyl.

Why coastal homes need a careful approach

Vinyl wallpaper forms a moisture barrier. In a home surrounded by salt water and humid air, any dampness that gets into a wall from outside or from a bathroom can get trapped behind that vinyl for years. When the paper comes off, we sometimes find mildew spots, discoloration, or soft areas in the drywall, especially on exterior concrete walls and around tubs and windows.

We look for those signs as we go and stop to show you if we find anything significant. Light surface mildew can usually be cleaned and sealed with a stain-blocking primer. Wet or crumbling board points to a source that should be fixed before the wall is finished again.

Identifying the paper and the wall

A quick test in an inconspicuous spot tells us what we are dealing with. The answer sets the method and the timeline.

  • Strippable paper that releases dry in full sheets
  • Peelable vinyl that leaves a paper backing to soak off
  • Older paper bonded to unprimed drywall, which needs slow, gentle work
  • Painted-over paper that has to be scored before water can reach the paste
  • Paper on plaster over concrete, which handles soaking but may crack at old repairs

How the work goes

We protect floors with plastic and drop cloths, tape off outlets after power is cut to the area, and take down hardware such as towel bars and mirrors that are screwed to the wall. The top layer is pulled first, then the backing is soaked with warm water and a removal solution and scraped off at a low angle.

With the paper gone, we wash every wall to remove leftover paste, which otherwise causes cracking paint or poor adhesion for new wallpaper. Torn drywall paper is sealed so it will not bubble, then the wall is skimmed, sanded and primed for the finish you have chosen.

Drying in a humid climate

Removal soaks the walls, and drying takes longer when the outside air is heavy. From May through October, Fort Lauderdale and the coast north of it see hot, humid, rainy weather, so we keep the AC running and may use fans to speed drying before priming. In the drier winter months, walls are often ready sooner. Either way, we do not prime or paper until the wall is truly dry.

Building rules and absent owners

Removal is messy, so condo buildings often want to know exactly how debris will leave the unit. We bag waste inside, protect elevators and hallways, and follow the building's rules for contractor hours and service elevator use. If you are not in town, management can grant access where the building allows, and we send photos of the walls after removal, including anything we found underneath.

During hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, we adjust the schedule if a storm threatens, since a power outage can stall drying for days.

What comes next

Once the walls are clean and primed, you can bring in a painter or have us hang new wallpaper. If you plan to repaper, tell us early, since the level of smoothing needed depends on the finish. We also take removal work in Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Coconut Creek.

  1. Honest prep advice

If a wall needs skim coating, crack repair or a moisture check first, we tell you before the job starts, not halfway through it.

  2. Pattern planned on purpose

We decide where the first strip lands so the motif centers on a focal point and the least visible seam ends up in a corner.

  3. Climate-aware materials

We help you pick papers and adhesives suited to humid bathrooms, salty coastal air and rooms where the AC cycles all day.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 823-3201 and we’ll talk it through.

What if you find mold behind the wallpaper?

We stop and show you. Light surface mildew can be cleaned and sealed; larger moisture problems need the source fixed first.

Can removal be done while I am away?

Yes, where the building allows contractor access through management. We send photos when the walls are done.

How do you keep the building clean?

We bag debris in the unit, protect elevators and hallways, and follow the building's contractor rules.

How long before new paint or wallpaper can go on?

Once the wall is fully dry and primed. In humid months that can take an extra day.

Can you remove wallpaper from bathroom walls with tile?

Yes. We work carefully along tile edges and fixtures so the grout and caulk lines stay intact.
